The Dancers Are Back!

SF Ballet dancers joyously returned to our studios last week for socially distanced company classes. Read about the months of research and planning that made this possible, and what the new normal is for company class.

Nutcracker Lives On, But From a Distance
Nutcracker—a holiday tradition for 75,000+ SF Ballet visitors each year—will not be seen live this December. Instead, we’re reimagining Nutcracker and want to hear from you! “We are a family of dancers, students, and loyal patrons that come together for these performances each year,” says Artistic Director Helgi Tomasson. “Perhaps all of this will make our reunion next year all the more special.” Take the survey and read the news release.

Behind the Lens: The Making of Dance of Dreams
Last week, Christensen Society and Artistic Director’s Council donors joined us on Zoom as we talked with cast, choreographers, and crew involved in the capture of our latest dance film, Dance of Dreams. They shared behind-the-scenes stories and photos about the creative process while sheltered in place. Read more and learn how you can join.

Dance at a Distance every Tues at 3:30 pm PDT
It was really fun. And sweaty. I'm beginning to feel like myself again. Thank you.”
Launched this spring, Dance at a Distance is a chance for active Seniors to take a gentle ballet class (from home!) and learn about dance history. This month, learn about Jerome Robbins and his choreography. Want to join us?

Books and ballet have always gone together—here are some books for lockdown suggestions from the bookworms on our Development team.

Our guest on Meet the Artist this week is Myles Thatcher. Hear about his career, promotion, and work as a choreographer. This series with newly promoted dancers runs on Fridays.
